GTA 5 system requirements

While we wait for more news and a closer look at GTA 6, you can check out the recently increased GTA 5 system requirements for 2025. The graphical improvements introduced in the enhanced edition bring some long-desired features, but at the cost of elevated system requirements over the original 2015 specs, particularly for the recommended requirements.

You won’t need the best graphics card from our buying guides to get Grand Theft Auto 5 running, even with the big performance upgrades that arrived with GTA 5 Enhanced. Ray tracing, FSR, and DLSS support for the game have, however, pushed the game’s original system requirements way beyond what was originally demanded, and in so doing, relegated older gaming laptops and PCs to the legacy version of the game. There’s no real downside to running the legacy mode if you just want to experience the single-player campaign, but anyone hoping to dive into GTA Online should be warned that legacy and enhanced edition players have no crossover.

Here are the GTA 5 Enhanced system requirements in 2025:

Minimum Recommended
OS Windows 10 64-bit Windows 10 64-bit
GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 1630
AMD Radeon RX 6400
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060
AMD Radeon RX 6600XT
VRAM 4GB 8GB
CPU Intel Core i7 4770
AMD FX 9590
Intel i5 9600K
AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Storage 105GB SSD required 105GB DirectStorage-compatible SSD recommended
RAM 8GB 16GB

The GTA 5 system requirements received a considerable boost thanks to the introduction of the enhanced edition launching on PC in March 2025. This update brought with it all the next-gen console visual upgrades, including ray tracing and upscaling support.

The GTA 5 minimum requirements for 2025 don’t require support for ray tracing, though, simply demanding an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1630 or AMD Radeon RX 6400 GPU. Meanwhile, the CPU required by the enhanced edition is either an Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX 9590 CPU paired with 8GB of RAM, whereas the 2015 original required an Intel Core 2 Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850 CPU and 4GB of RAM. Either way, though, these aren’t demanding specs for a modern gaming PC.

The GTA 5 recommended specs for the enhanced edition could also offer us a peek at the potential GTA 6 system requirements on PC, demanding an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT GPU, an Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, and 16GB of RAM. By modern gaming standards, this isn’t particularly challenging, but it will definitely represent a significant hurdle to any gaming rig that struggled to run the legacy version of the game.

Here are the GTA 5 Legacy system requirements in 2025:

Minimum Recommended
OS Windows 10 64-bit or later Windows 10 64-bit or later
GPU Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
AMD HD 4870
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660
AMD HD 7870
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600
AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core
Intel Core i5 3470
AMD X8 FX-8350
RAM 4GB 8GB
Storage 120GB 120GB

As stated, the legacy minimum requirements remain exceptionally low, and even the GTA 5 legacy recommended specs won’t command a great deal from your PC if you’re not ready to make the jump to the enhanced edition. To play the 2015 classic at its best, you’ll only need an Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 GPU paired with an Intel Core i5 3470 or AMD X8 FX-8350 CPU and 8GB of RAM.

By modern standards, none of the GTA system requirements are demanding, with all but the enhanced recommended specs relying on the now-defunct Nvidia GTX graphics cards.

If you want to expand your experience even further, there are plenty of GTA 5 mods that can increase the graphical fidelity of the game, even going as far as to add photorealistic visuals, but you’ll need increasingly more powerful hardware to keep up with the added system resource demands.

The GTA 5 download size requires 105GB of SSD space for the enhanced edition, which is 15GB less than the legacy edition’s 120GB of storage space. You’ll want to use the best gaming SSD to ensure shorter loading times and to benefit from the DirectStorage compatibility supported by the enhanced edition.

Of course, if you’re eagerly waiting for a GTA 6 release date, you’ll be tempted to build the best gaming PC possible. However, we suggest holding off until we know more about the GTA 6 graphics, and how our time in Leonida will play out.
